We are looking for Plant Supervisor to provide leadership support to operations on the plant floor. Ensure that the processing of recyclable materials is efficient, safe, and produces quality products that meet buyers’ needs, with direction from the District Operations Manager. This includes organizing the plant’s resources, such as labour, equipment, processes, recyclable materials and other technology, on a day-to-day basis.

What will you do?
  • Supervise, co-ordinate and schedule the activities of plant staff, which includes general labour and machine operators
  • Ensure all company occupational health and safety policies, procedures and training are adhered to
  • Under the direction of the District Operations Manager, ensure that plant production meets productivity goals and financial targets
  • Ensure commodities produced meet the buyers’ specifications
  • Coordinate with maintenance team to ensure preventative maintenance is performed on schedule and downtime is minimized
  • Work actively with administrative, collections and shipping personnel to coordinate material flowing in and out of the facility
  • Ensure detailed coordination and communication with other shift  lead hands (reFuse, Warehouse, Yard)
  • Conduct incident investigations when necessary
  • Ensure good housekeeping and a safe, well organized facility
  • Prepare production and other reports
  •   Assist with the recruitment of new employees
  •   Assist in training floor and sorting personnel on floor operations, quality   specifications of recycled materials, and safety procedures
  •   Provide recommendations to improve production and product quality
  •   Perform other duties as assigned
  • Ensure the health and safety of all workers under your direct supervision
  • Know the WorkSafeBC requirements that apply to the work under your supervision and make sure those requirements are met
  • Ensure workers under your supervision are aware of all known hazards
  • Ensure workers under your supervision have the appropriate personal protective equipment, which is being used properly, regularly inspected, and maintained
 
What will you bring? 
  • Post-Secondary Education or equivalent work experience
  • 2-3 years’ experience in a supervisory role in a manufacturing or processing environment required
  • Experience in motivating and managing hourly employees
  • Experience in the waste management and recycling industry is strongly preferred
  • Ability or willingness to be trained in operating and maintaining equipment
  • Must be proactive and willing to learn
  • Mobile equipment operation experience or certification is an asset (forklift, loader)
  • Willingness to assist hourly employees throughout the day to ensure all duties are complete
  • Ability and willingness to work shift work (day and evening), weekends and holidays as necessary.
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge in using Word and Excel.
