Emterra is currently seeking for a Utility Worker to join our team at our Chilliwack, BC location. This position is responsible for monitoring a recycling depot located at the Bailey Landfill which is located in the City of Chilliwack.

Utility Workers perform general labour-type duties and interact face-to-face with members of the general public to receive recyclable materials at the Bailey Landfill Recycling Depot. Work is performed on a daily basis in a noisy environment in all types of weather conditions. This position works Wednesday to Saturday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM and Sundays from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
 
What will you do? 
  • Greet and direct all customers upon entry of the recycling depot;
  • Direct customers and members of the general public to quickly, safely and efficiently unload materials;
  • Communicate/educate customers on acceptable products and recyclables;
  • Correctly identify that materials delivered to the recycling depot conform with site rules and restrictions;
  • Assist customers with alternative disposal or recycling options for unacceptable products;
  • Provide our customers with outstanding customer service;
  • Monitor inventories of recyclable materials and notify Emterra Supervisor/Manager when pickup is required;
  • Provide on-site traffic control as volume of incoming/outgoing traffic can be very heavy;
  • Provide on-site litter control in order to maintain a clean and welcoming environment;
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
 What will you bring? 
  • Previous experience working at a recycling depot considered an asset, but is not required;
  • Strong customer focus along with a calm demeanor during periods of high volume;
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to effectively work in a multi-cultural environment;
  • A willingness to work in all weather conditions;
  • An ability to lift up to 25 lbs;
