As a Junior Transportation Planning Technician, you will be able to make a positive impact on the efficiency and productivity of Emterra’s fleet of recycling and waste collection trucks and truck operators across Canada by utilizing GPS and GIS software to update current and create new truck routes. The successful candidate will be organized, computer savvy, have strong listening skills and be able to communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including managers, supervisors and drivers.  An ability to excel in a fast paced environment with an entrepreneurial mindset is crucial for this position!
 
What will you do?
  • Create and/or update efficient route maps for drivers using GIS and GPS software;
  • Evaluate routes with supervisors and drivers and make recommendations for route changes for the purposes of keeping routes and data current, efficient and of the right size
  • Inputs and maintains data in GPS and GIS systems and other programs;
  • Establish good rapport and relationships with peers and communicate information in a timely manner; and
  • General office duties and other duties as required.
Work Environment
  • Office
  • May require minor driving to verify route maps or travel to other locations.
What will you bring?
  • Minimum 1- 2 years previous experience working in a related office/administrative role
  • Grade 12 or equivalency;  job related post-secondary education considered an asset
  • Relevant post-secondary degree/diplomat/certification, such as a GIS certificate program
  • Experience with GIS, GPS and Adobe software
  • Experience in route planning and route map development
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of transportation operations, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to perform under tight deadlines
  • Experience providing customer service and the ability to act with diplomacy and professionalism
  • Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft applications
  • Ability to multi-task and shift priorities as necessary
  • Experience and knowledge of the transportation/logistics and/or waste management industry an asset
