We are looking for an individual to provide leadership support to operations on the plant floor. Ensure that the processing of recyclable materials is efficient, safe, and produces quality products that meet buyers’ needs, with direction from the Plant Manager. This includes organizing the plant’s resources, such as labour, equipment, processes, recyclable materials and other technology, on a day-to-day basis.
 

What will you do?
  • Supervise, co-ordinate and schedule the activities of plant staff, which includes general labour and machine operators
  • Under the direction of the Plant Manager, ensure that plant production meets productivity goals and financial targets
  • Ensure commodities produced meet the buyers’ specifications
  • Coordinate with maintenance team to ensure preventative maintenance is performed on schedule and downtime is minimized
  • Work actively with scale and shipping personnel to coordinate material flowing in and out of the facility
  • Ensure detailed coordination and communication with other shift supervisors/leadhands
  • Ensure good housekeeping and a safe, well organized facility
  • Prepare production and other reports
  • Assist in training floor and sorting personnel on floor operations, quality specifications of recycled materials, and safety procedures
  • Provide recommendations to improve production and product quality
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Ability or willingness to be trained in operating and maintaining equipment
  • Ensure the health and safety of all workers under direct supervision, which includes but is not limited to:
    • making all workers aware of known hazards
    • ensuring all workers are adequately trained on all applicable equipment, processes, and duties
    • ensuring all workers are equipped with proper Personal Protective (PPE) and that it is being used properly, regularly inspected, and maintained
    • ensuring all other provincial and company related safety policies and procedures as prescribed
  • Understand and work in accordance with all appropriate legislative obligations and requirements
 
What will you bring?
  • Ability and willingness to work shift work (day and evening), weekends and holidays
  • 2-3 years experience in a supervisory role in a manufacturing or processing environment required
  • Experience in the waste management and recycling industry is strongly preferred
  • Must be proactive and willing to learn
  • Mobile equipment operation experience or certification (forklift, loader)
  • Must have good communication skills in English
  • With University/College degree or Operation training/certification an asset
