Please join our team as an Operations Specialist. You will focus on the daily operations, including safety, administration, monitoring of the work, inspections and customer relations.  Our Operations Specialist will be organized, computer savvy, have strengths in communicating effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including managers, supervisors and customers.  An ability to excel in a fast paced environment with an entrepreneurial mindset is crucial for this position!
 
What will you do?
 
  • Use Global Positioning System (GPS) to track vehicles, and to ensure 100% routes are completed daily as required by the Peel Region Contract, dispatch assignment to drivers;
  • Provide end of day Supervision of drivers/loaders with close out communications; review driver’s paperwork and talk with drivers as they are coming in;
  • Perform day supervisor tasks as required;
  • Coordinate with Operations team on the completion and submission of reports, and investigations in a timely manner;
  • Continuously drive improvements in routing and monitor dump times;
  • Set up and maintain driver and loader files for direct and agency hires;
  • Maintain driver and loader vacation calendar;
  • Administration for all operations reporting relating to investigations, WSIB, etc.; 
  • WSIB Case management, active review of open WSIB claims to ensure early safe return to work in conjunction with WSIB specialists;
  • Maintaining accurate records for Operations and Health and Safety;
  • Handling customer inquiries courteously and professionally;
  • Support daily data entry including scale slips, route data, fuel logs and other data as required; diagnose issues in a data-driven manner and implement solutions;
  • General office duties including filing and other duties as required;
  • Training Administration – coordinate all training of new hires,  annual training and remedial training;
  • Support Route Coordination – support operations team with mapping, routing, GPS and internal documents to ensure drivers meet expectations in a timely fashion.
 
What will you bring?
  • Minimum 2 years previous experience working in a related office/administrative role;
  • Relevant post-secondary degree;
  • Grade 12 or GED equivalency;
  •  Supervisory experience an asset;
  • Experience and knowledge of the waste management or transportation industry an asset;
  • Dispatch experience an asset;
  • Experience with data entry and the generation of reports;
  • Ability to perform under tight deadlines;
  • Experience providing customer service and the ability to act with diplomacy and professionalism;
  • Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft applications;
  • Ability to multi-task and shift priorities as necessary;
