Safety Trainer

The Safety Trainer is responsible to provide safety leadership for the fleet operations group in order to ensure adherence to corporate policy, compliance with government legislation, regulation and in maintaining a safe working environment for all employees. This includes developing and implementing training programs. The Safety Trainer position is open at our Surrey, BC and Burlington, ON locations.
 
What will you do?
  • Develops training programs in collaboration with collections, facilities, human resources and safety to meet both individual function and system wide training needs.
  • Leads and conducts various training sessions through oral presentation utilizing appropriate technology, audiovisual aids, and relevant support documents.
  • Plans and organizes training activities including scheduling training sessions, ensuring necessary training materials are available for sessions, preparing lesson plans, arranging for meeting space to meet needs of class size, etc.
  • Coordinates promotion and distribution of information regarding training programs to all managers.
  • Responsible for development and delivery of select soft skills and other employee and leadership development programs.
  • Assists in development and delivery of job specific training (in person or virtual; end user and train the trainer).
  • Oversees management and provides training/support of the Safety/Training data-base to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Provides monthly reporting and analysis from the Safety/Training data-base and distributes to Operations.
  • Assists with vendor research, communication and evaluation.
  • Designs, plans, coordinates, conducts and evaluates training programs (both internal and external) for target audiences.
  • Designs plans, procedures and processes for the administration of training; monitoring employee progress and program effectiveness.
  • Stays informed of new developments, methods, practices, and techniques in the training profession.
  • Conducts driver ride-along and competency checks/sign-offs.
  • Responds to employees and managers to address training questions and concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
What will you bring?
  • Relevant degree (adult education or instructional design) supplemented by 2 or more years’ experience in the design and delivery of learning or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic initiatives;
  • Experience in curriculum and instructional design for adult learners in online and face-to-face environments;
  • Affinity towards Health and Safety and proven record of safe practices in the work place;
  • Experience in the waste or transportation industries an asset;
  • Energy, curiosity and desire to learn;
  • Extremely proficient in MS Office suite of products, particularly Excel, Outlook and Word;
  • Acute attention to detail and strong commitment to producing excellent work products;
  • A high degree of personal ethics, integrity and responsibility with an ability to deal with sensitive issues and safeguard confidential information;
  • Ability to manage multiple timelines and thrive in a dynamic workplace with changing priorities;
  • Ability to work independently and self-manage;
  • Ability to work in and excel in environments with less structure and
  • A strong desire to grow your career in business.
